Glass nail files help seal the keratin layers on the free edges of the nail (which helps prevent nail splitting), unlike traditional emery boards which can split and fray the free edges.
This is why you usually need to buff or smooth out the nails after using emery board.
The grinding surface is permanently etched into glass itself, making the lifespan essentially “forever” (unless you break it, of course)!
